MARCH 2025 GROWTH NOTES

It has been raining fairly nonstop this month. BRING IT! Long live the rains of the PNW!

I have a lonely and singular stance regarding rain, and the eternal drip of our winters. I love it. There are never too many cloudy days for me. I love every single morning that I awaken to the sounds of it thrumming on our metal rooftop. I love the grey monochrome of the sky with dramatic puffy clouds in the forefront. I love how the moss and lichen receive rain—they puff up and round out like plump succulents. I love how rain is the one ingredient that keeps our surroundings cool and green and full of the moisture that this region emerged from and evolves with.

I am the lonely—preachy?— voice of correction for every “horrible weather” and “yucky day” comment. “Crappy weather we’re having!” says anyone, trying to connect and commiserate. “It is not crappy weather,” I retort, “it is wet weather. And wonderful for the trees, plants and the ducks. It is what keeps our temperate rain forests as beautiful as they are.” That is me, piously soapboxing at Grange Sunday brunch service to unwitting guests who complain about the rain, and how it inconveniences their plans.

True. There is an inconvenience to wet hair, clothes and feet. But that was what REI was created for! No bad weather - just bad clothing options.
